Happy Sunday my friends! I hope your having a wonderful weekend keeping warm and to help you do this, I have something special to share with you today.
Aromatherapy Heating Bag
First decide on what type of heating bag you'd like. A shoulder bag, a large one for your back, or to have over your legs.
These instructions are for a long, narrow bag
Cut fabric into a 12×20 inch rectangle. (this size drapes nicely over adult shoulders but you can make your bag into any size.)
Fold fabric with right sides together. You will now have a rectangle that is 6×20.
Sew fabric down one short side, along the long side, and down just part of the remaining short side. Leave a small opening so that you can turn fabric right side out and fill with rice. (see photo)
Remember when we made our pillows using hot glue rather than sewing? You can do the same thing here.
If using the glue gun method - Hot glue the short sides of the fabric.
Turn fabric right side out. You can also iron the fabric at this time if you would like but I don’t bother as wrinkles will disappear as you heat up the rice bag.
In a bowl, combine rice with your aromatherapy option. Mix well.
Insert a funnel (or paper funnel) into fabric bag and start filling the bag with rice.
Fill bag halfway with rice. I’ve found that you need about 6 cups of rice for this size rice bag.
Once your bag is half full with rice, remove funnel. Fold the raw edges of the “hole” so that it lines up with the sewn edge.
Hot glue the remaining open side.
How to Use:
Heat rice bag in microwave for 2-3 minutes (for this size. Smaller size bags will need less time.)
No microwave? No problem!
I’ve also heard you can heat up a rice bag in the oven at 200 degrees for about 15 minutes but make sure to check on the bag often.
