How to Hand Paint Letters to Make Signs

Shared with us by

  • Find a font on your computer
  • Light colored chalk
  • Scotch tape
  • Either 1/4" round paint brush and black acrylic paint, or a black paint pen

The first step in doing this is to find a font on your computer that you like. Enlarge the font to fit an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper then print. Then shrink this font down to 4 x 5" and print on a seperate piece of paper. These are two standard sizes for you to work from. You can certainly make them smaller if you'd like.

Now take a piece of chalk and color the entire back side of either piece.

With the face side down, tape it down on the piece your working on.

Then starting with your hand, rub over the entire paper really good. Then you can switch to a spoon to rub over the paper.

Now remove the paper and either with your paint brush and black paint, or with your paint pen, begin coloring inside the lines of your wording.
