WINTER WONDERLAND

CARDBOARD ANIMALS

I'd like to create a WINTER WONDERLAND today with animals scattering about and creative ideas on where to put them on to display in little vignettes around your home. I know - me and my vignettes!

Winter Wonderland Penguins

Winter wouldn't be winter without a few little penguins splashing around in between the ice glaciers.

I made a few of these last year and totally enjoyed them. Now that I've learned how to make these, I'm thinking of other winter animals to make.

Step 1. I've made these 10" x 6 1/2" templates for you to print and use here

Step 2. After you've printed your penguins, simply trace them onto a piece of cardboard.

Step 3. Now you'll make a slit like seen here on both pieces

Step 4. Now you'll paint them like seen here.

And your done!

Winter Wonderland Polar Bear, Deer, Trees, Sleds and Foxes

Step 1. I've created these templates here on a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper. You can either enlarge these or make them smaller - whatever you prefer.

Step 2. Once you have your patterns printed, trace them onto cardboard.

Step 3. After you've traced them, cut out using an X-acto knife.

Step 4. Now you can begin painting each one like seen here.

Step 5. Finally, begin fitting the pieces together.

Fox

You're a pro now! I've made this at 8 1/2" x 6 1/2". Print - Cut - Assemble!

So now that we have all of our furry friends made, let's create something to put them on. Using a mirror gives the illusion that it's ice.

These are from Hobby Lobby

And of course we need a little snow on our ice.

  • 2 lb. box of baking soda
  • 1 can shaving cream
  • Dish or container (to mix it all up in)
  • Pour all of the 2 lb. box of baking soda into a plastic container with a lid.
  • Add some shaving cream, and knead it into the baking soda.  Add more shaving cream, mix, and repeat, until the mixture is the consistency of snow.
  • The DIY fake snow becomes light and powdery, and will leave very little residue on your hands when fully mixed.

Add this to the sides of your mirror for a more realistic look!

I totally enjoyed making all of these little animals, trees and sled to add to our Winter Wonderland.

Like anything you do, let your creativity take hold!
